What I believe…

By Jonas Forsberg November 20, 2008: (6)

Alright guys, today I got a different type of topic. It does not involve training tips or fat burning workouts, it is a complete different approach.

In this post, I would like to share with you my thoughts and my values – basically, what I believe is important in this world, and how I see things.

==> I believe that walking around planning for the future and pension is a waste of time and effort. Why talk about all the things you are going to do and all the money you are going to have in 10-20 years, when you could live your life at this very moment?

We live right here, right now. Enjoy each day as it was your last!

==> I believe that Mark Twain’s famous quote – “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” – is as right as it gets.

If you are trying to make a change in your life and all you hear are negative comments and reactions, then these people should not deserve your attention.

“The really great make you feel that you, too, can become great” – and these are the type of friends to hold on to!

==> I believe you should treat other people the same way you want them to treat you. Respect and helping others is something I truly value, and it makes me furious to see people who only think about themselves and only focuses on what they need!

==> I believe that in order to succeed in life you need to come across roadblocks and obstacles. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, and if you never try – you’ll never succeed!

==> I believe that Michael Jordan is one of the biggest role models to human kind. Over and over again he has shown that he was no different then you and I. He stated that he missed more than 9000 shots, he lost almost 300 games and 26 times he was trusted to take the game winning shot, and he missed.

Michael Jordan’s examples and statements does not only relate to basketball, it also relates to life in general. He said that he has always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.

Worth mentioning, I have never seen one full game with Michael Jordan, I can’t play basketball and I rarely watch it, but I know that people like Michael Jordan is one of the biggest role models to human kind!

==> I believe you can divide people into the following 2 groups:

  • Those who envy other people with money and success, and walks around dreaming of having the life of the rich and famous, and
  • Then there are those who get tired of hearing people talk about how successful this or that person is, and how perfect his/her life must be, etc.

People from the second group don’t go around dreaming their whole life – they take action, they learn from the best and they make it happen!

==> I believe that health and fitness has turned into something complicated, when it in the beginning was made to be easy for people to understand. Today health and fitness is like a difficult math course with tons of calculations that needs to be done.

People are being told to buy all different types of equipment, work out on machines in the gym, calculate their BMI – while they could ignore all the nonsense, get back to basics, and use their own bodyweight.

Keeping it fun and easy!

==> I believe that people don’t really appreciate what they have until it’s gone. People don’t appreciate being healthy until they get sick, people don’t appreciate love until they have no one to love, people don’t appreciate small things like taking a hot shower until the warm water is gone, etc.

Appreciate what you have and take care of it. Don’t take everything for granted!

==> I believe there is no coincidence that the biggest athletes and the most successful entrepreneurs in the world come from a tough childhood without anything to fall back on.

==> I believe it’s better to look back and regret the things you did then the things you didn’t do! There are so many things I wish I did when I had the chance, and now that it’s gone, I can never have it back.

Those are some of my beliefs here in life. Feel free to interpret them the way you want.

  • Jonas,

LOVE your “I believe. . .” list! Great points and I agree with them wholeheartedly! (The saying has always been “Great minds think alike.” I’m getting the feeling that there are a lot of great minds sharing space over at PTSA! :) )

Thanks for letting us know about your post so we could enjoy it!

    Sincerely,

    Christopher Warden

  • Hi Jonas,
Great post. My favorite is that one about not appreciating things/people until they are gone. So simple, yet we make it so complicated. Good reminder. Thanks!

  • Jonas, wonderful post, my friend!

I feel that through knowing your beliefs, I know you so much better already : )

    Keep up the great work!

  • Once upon a time I planned for my future, and then literally overnight those plans were changed – and not by me! I felt like I was a jar full of marbles that someone took and dumped all over the floor. Guess who had to pick them up?? ;)

That was quite a painful little OK HUGE life lesson! ;)

Most people spend their lives living in the past or the future – neither of which is reality. We can make plans but it just seems like most “plans” often rely on outside factors.

I tend to keep on eye on the horizon – just to make sure I’m headed in the direction I want to go. That’s about all I can do!

Nice post. You’ve given me ideas to write about. Thanks!

  • Thanks for your lovely comments guys!

Christopher: I am very happy to hear you agree with me. PTSA really is an awesome source for all
of us, and I think it will help a lot of people, me included!

Kaisa: I couldn’t agree more. I have experienced it myself, and now I have definitely learnt how to appreciate the small things in life, and be grateful for what you got. But of course, you could always get more ;) .

    Dax: Thanks Coach :)

DaleK: Wow, I’m sorry to hear it hit you in such a hard way, but my guess is that you are a lot stronger now as a person, and have learned how to turn this event into something positive.

Sure, when we get kids and our own family, we probably tend to plan a bit for the future, but I just can’t understand people who go through life working their *ss off so they can live the life they wanted when they are 65. It doesn’t make sense to me!

Again, thanks for taking time to comment!

    Cheers,
    Jonas

  • jonas,

some brilliant points there mate, you sound like a man after my own heart. thank you for that message you sent me earlier, that was a wicked story about the football team.

You should be really proud of the way they came together, and be proud of yourself for being such a positive influence and role model.

If more people shared your attitude and beliefs, this world would be a much better place.

    thanks mate!

    Kyle
