Burn Fat during or after your workout?

Alright guys, first off I got an announcement to make that goes against basically the whole fitness and health industry: I LOVE Playstation and especially FIFA 09. May sound geeky, may sound stupid.

Fact is, I played a lot of Playstation about 3-4 years back, but haven’t done so the last 2 years, so this night was really awesome and gave me a nice and comfortable recovery from all the work I’m currently putting down for my new upcoming program Burn Fat at Home.

How come I can write about Playstation in a blog like this, where the hidden message is to be more active?

The answer is simple: My training is created around something called the AFTERBURN. It’s sad to see people doing hours of cardio on the treadmill and other cardio equipments to burn off 400-700 calories on a daily basis.

In today’s society, we have been taught to believe that the calories we need to burn off are those calories we burn during our workout. That’s the reason a lot of people completely remove strength training from their workout schedule since 1 hour of running on the treadmill burns more calories than strength training, so why bother hitting the weights if I still don’t burn any calories?

I hate to break it to you, but focusing on how many calories you burn during your workouts is unwise and extremely stupid.

Research are showing that circuit training (strength training where you move around between exercises with limited amount of rest) burns calories up to 48 hours after completed workout. Let’s say you only burn calories for half that time, meaning that after a workout you keep burning calories for another 23 hours, how does that sound?

What do you prefer:

  • Burn calories for one hour by doing boring long distance running, or
  • Burn calories the rest of the day by doing intense circuit training that gets you moving, sweating and builds you more muscles – in less than 30 minutes.

My choice is pretty clear and that’s the reason I can, without any guilt, sit down with my friends and play a whole night of FIFA 09.

Keep it intense and keep burning calories for the rest of the day,

Jonas
